Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located in Georgia's historic Kartli region, Barbale Wines is a winery founded in 2016 that produces excellent Georgian wines using traditional winemaking methods and indigenous grape varieties, fully respecting the country's winemaking identity. Here, in the historic village of Bolnisi, the estate's vineyards enjoy ideal conditions for quality viticulture. Barbale Khvanchkara is a semi-sweet red wine made from a blend of native Aleksandrouli and Mujuretuli grapes, hand-picked from vineyards in the Racha-Lechkhumi sub-region. Here, the vines thrive in shale-clay soil and a mountainous microclimate with warm daytime air currents from the Black Sea and cool nights, favoring slow ripening and the development of lively acidity. Fermentation occurs slowly with indigenous yeasts in Qvevri tanks at low temperatures to preserve the wine's natural sweetness. In the glass, the wine reveals a dark ruby color with purple highlights and an intense aromatic profile with notes of berries, rose petals, sultanas, and spices. On the palate, it is rich, generous, velvety, and full-bodied, with a balanced streak of acidity. It has soft tannins and a long, persistent finish. Try it with Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine.
