Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for half an hour. Located in Chile's Maipo Valley, Santa Rita is one of the country's oldest wineries, founded in 1880 by Don Domingo Fernández Concha. Today, the winery is part of the Claro Group and, in 2025, it was named World's Best Winery by Forbes magazine. The Carmenere grapes are sourced from two main vineyards in the Colchagua Valley. Here, the vines enjoy particularly favorable soil and climate conditions for growing Carmenere, with a climate strongly influenced by the Coastal Cordillera, with dry, hot summers and rainy winters, and volcanic soils with a high clay content that retains moisture. After selection, harvest and temperature-controlled fermentation, the finished wine ages in French oak barrels (25% new) for 10 months. Medalla Real Gran Reserva Carmenere is an expressive and mature wine with an intense aromatic profile that opens with notes of sweet black fruits and continues with spicy and toasted notes. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, with good structure and soft, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long, elegant and smooth, with a touch of delicate fruity sweetness. Try it with roast lamb, spicy Asian beef dishes, or Moroccan meatballs.
